Host guide
Read this the afternoon before your show. Every room has its own addresses, and they all start with /r/ and your room's address. Below, <room> means yours.
1. Before the night
- Go to
/login, type your email, and tap the link we send. You can type the 6-digit code instead. There is no password. - On
/account, fill in Start a room: a name, an address (it goes on the QR posters), your time zone and a look. Tap Start the room. You land on the Clipboard, at/r/<room>/admin. Bookmark it. - On the Clipboard, open Show settings. Changes save on their own.
- The show: Show name, Date and Starts. Everyone's "roughly up at" time is worked out from the start time.
- Spots & timing: Spots is the cap (0 means no limit). Set is the usual set length in minutes. Gap is the time between acts. Set lengths comics can pick is a list like 3, 5, 7, 10.
- Tick Waitlist when it's full if you want extra names kept in line. Otherwise the form just says "full". Tick Sign-ups during the show if late names are allowed.
- The sign-up form: choose what to ask: Instagram, Set length, First-timer box, Notes for the host. Note at the top of the form is good for house rules.
- Look: pick a theme and a colour. The phones, printouts and TV all change together.
2. Put the list out
- Turn on Sign-ups open at the top of the Clipboard. Until you do, comics see "The list isn't open".
- Print the QR poster: Print menu, then QR door poster (or
/r/<room>/print, QR poster tab). Tape it by the door. - You can also show the QR on the screen. In Show settings, tick Show the QR code on the display.
- Comics scan it and land on
/r/<room>/signup. They type a name and tap Put me on the list. No account. - Their phone then shows their spot and "Roughly up at". It updates on its own. They can use Fix my details or Take me off.
- Comics can open
/r/<room>/lineupon their phones to see the order.
3. Put the TV up
- On a laptop, stick or smart TV browser, open
/r/<room>/tvand plug it into the venue screen. - Tap Full screen. Then tap the page once. Browsers won't play sound until someone taps, and that tap is what lets the music and video sound start.
- The TV shows who's on, who's next, the lineup, and slides in between. It also shows the crowd pictures you approve, and reactions people send from their phones.
- Crowd pictures are off until you turn them on. Open Approvals ↗ on the TV, or go to
/r/<room>/admin/tv. Turn on Taking pictures. It only works on show day and the day after. - Print the "Send your pics" poster from the Print menu, or send people to
/r/<room>/share. They pick photos or videos and tap Send to the TV. - Pictures land under Waiting for the okay. Tap Approve, or Reject. Approve all does the lot. Nothing reaches the screen until you do this. Skip approval sends everything straight up. Leave it off.
- If a picture goes up that you don't want, tap Pull on it.
- The Play music on the TV switch is here too. The music goes quiet while a comic is on.
- Want only the lineup, with no pictures? Use Lineup only on the TV page.
4. Run the night
- The bar along the bottom of the Clipboard runs the show. Tap Start show. This also publishes the order, so phones and the TV switch from sign-up order to the real running order and times.
- Tap Next ▶ when the next comic goes up. The timer shows the set. On the last act the button says End show.
- Tapped too soon? ◀ goes back to the previous act. ■ pauses so nobody is on, and Resume ▶ picks it up again.
- Everyone's "roughly up at" time moves with the real clock. If you run long, the times slide.
- Want to set the order before the show starts? Turn Publish running order on yourself. Leave it off and comics only see the sign-up order.
- Bucket draw: tap 🎲 Shuffle and confirm. It randomly reorders the comics who haven't gone up yet. It leaves locked spots alone.
- Locked closer: tap their name in the Running order, tick Lock this spot, and tap Save. Shuffle won't move them. Late sign-ups go ahead of anything locked at the end.
- Walk-ins: tap + Walk-in, type the name, and tap Add. + Host bit and + Intermission add those to the order too.
- To move someone, drag ⠿. To change a set length, a note or a status, tap their name. Bring up now puts them on stage.
- Tap ✓ on a row to mark that comic done.
5. Wrap up
- When the night is over, tap Save & start fresh in the Wrap up card. Fill in the next show's name, date and start time, and confirm.
- Sign-ups close, the order goes back to hidden, and the list is saved under Past shows. Your other settings stay the same, so the room is ready for next time.
- Tap Download CSV for a spreadsheet of this list. Every past show has its own CSV and Print buttons too.
- Tap a past show and then Make this the current list to bring it back.
- Photos and videos are deleted automatically after a short time. If you want to keep them, use Download all on
/r/<room>/admin/tvfirst. - A mic every week? Tick Every week next to the show date. The night then wraps itself up the morning after and sets up the same night next week, and sign-ups can open on their own.
6. The light
- A minute before a comic's set is up (change it under The light in the settings), the TV glows and their phone buzzes, if they signed up on it. At time, it says Wrap it up.
- Tap Light on the live bar to give whoever's on the light right now. Bringing up the next act clears it.
7. Running a room at a venue
- If a bar or club asks you onto its staff, you'll get an email. Sign in with that address and accept on your rooms.
- Then pick the venue under Runs at on your room. When the venue is on the Venue plan, your room carries its logo, colours and house slides, at no cost to you.
- The room stays yours. Take it back out any time; its list and past shows come with it.
If something goes wrong
- A comic lost their spot. Their phone remembers it. They should use the same phone and the same browser. If that's not possible, add them with + Walk-in.
- The TV froze. Tap ↻ Refresh (or press R). It catches up on its own.
- The TV says "Reconnecting…". Give it a moment. It reconnects by itself.
- No sound. Tap the TV page once.
- Everyone is on the same wifi. That's fine. The phones, the Clipboard and the TV all talk to the same server.
- Wifi is down. Keep a printed Paper sign-up sheet and Running order in the Print menu. Print them before the show.
